A New Chapter for Classical Education in Arlington, Texas

Great Hearts Arlington Upper School welcomes a transformative year ahead.

As the current school year winds to a close, a sense of new beginnings is already in the air at Great Hearts Arlington. Middle and high school Archers are eagerly anticipating the opening of a dedicated Upper School facility—a milestone that marks Phase II of campus construction project and a turning point in the life of the academy.

“This next year is, in a way, a first year all over again,” says Headmaster Dena Franco. “We’ve been in a shared space since our founding, but we’re finally stepping into a building that reflects the identity and culture we’ve been growing toward.”

A School of Firsts—And Futures

Great Hearts Arlington Upper School opened its doors just four years ago, offering families in the Arlington area a tuition-free public charter school that blends rigorous academics with timeless values. In those early years, students and teachers laid the foundation of something remarkable: a community built not just on academic achievement, but on virtue, friendship, and tradition.

“What makes this moment so special,” Franco explains, “is that our scholars aren’t just attending school—they’re shaping it. They’re cultural architects.”

From designing the house system to leading planning committees for homecoming and prom, Great Hearts students take ownership of their experience in meaningful ways. With each new tradition, they build something lasting for future generations to inherit.

Designed for Depth, Connection, and Growth

The new Upper School building, set to open in the fall, will provide scholars in grades 6–12 with a purpose-built space that reflects the classical model of education they receive. The campus will feature:

  • Fully equipped biology and chemistry laboratories

  • Dedicated classrooms for humanities and mathematics

  • Spaces for mentorship, conversation, and collaboration

  • A front entrance exclusive to Upper School students

“For the first time, our scholars will have a place to call their own—where they can explore, grow, and thrive from sixth grade through graduation,” Franco says. “This building will be a place they enjoy now, return to later, and maybe even dream of sending their own children to.”

A Classical, Tuition-Free Alternative in Arlington

At a time when many public schools are overwhelmed and private schools feel out of reach, Great Hearts Arlington offers a rare blend of accessibility and excellence. As a tuition-free public charter school, it is open to all families across Arlington and the surrounding DFW area.

The school’s curriculum is grounded in the classical liberal arts tradition. Students read the Great Books, engage in Socratic dialogue, and receive a well-rounded education that cultivates both intellect and character. It’s an education that doesn’t just prepare students for college—it prepares them for life.

Join Us in This New Beginning

“This is a great time to be part of something new,” Franco says. “We invite any family considering our school to take a tour, explore our website, and apply. This new building isn’t just a facility—it’s an opportunity.”

Whether your scholar is entering middle school or looking for a high school experience rooted in purpose and community, Great Hearts Arlington Upper School offers something truly unique.
