A New Home Rising: Construction Update from Great Hearts Irving Lower School

Headmaster Brogan recently offered a tour inside the construction site for the new Lower School at Great Hearts Irving, highlighting key features and updates that will help us better serve our scholars and families.

Headmaster Brogan begins his tour in what will become the school’s administrative offices. From this vantage point, we can see the framework for:

  • Gymnasium & Multipurpose Room: Rising behind the concrete structure, these spaces will provide ample room for physical education, student gatherings, and special events.
  • Kinder, First, and Second-Grade Classrooms: Located on the first floor, these classrooms will be conveniently grouped to foster collaboration and a strong sense of community.
  • Third, Fourth, and Fifth-Grade Classrooms: Occupying much of the second floor, these classes will be situated alongside dedicated rooms for music and art, ensuring our students receive well-rounded instruction in all subjects.

New Classroom Amenities

One of the exciting enhancements in this new building is the inclusion of shared bathrooms for Kindergarten and first-grade classrooms. By placing restroom facilities within the classrooms, younger students can remain securely in their learning environment and avoid unnecessary trips into the hallway—simplifying supervision and preserving valuable learning time.

Outdoor Spaces

As construction continues, attention is also focused on creating safe and engaging outdoor areas for our scholars:

  • Turf Field: Beyond the gymnasium and multipurpose room, a large fenced turf area will provide space for recess, athletics, and community events.
  • Covered Recreation Area: Part of this outdoor space will be shaded, allowing our students to enjoy fresh air and physical activity in comfort, shielded from harsh weather.

A View from the Current Campus

Great Hearts Irving has operated from a neighboring, rented property for the past ten years. From the upper floors there, our fifth graders have enjoyed a literal front-row seat to the rising walls and towering cranes on Story Road. It has been remarkable to watch the new campus take shape day by day.

Each steel beam and poured slab of concrete brings us one step closer to welcoming our scholars to their new home. This building represents a long-awaited dream for our community and underscores our dedication to providing a first-rate classical education in an inspiring environment.

Thank you for following our journey! We look forward to sharing further updates in the coming weeks. In the meantime, enjoy the featured video tour above, and please reach out with any questions or comments. We are grateful for your continued support as we write the next chapter in the “Story of Story Road.”
