Right on time, as the sun broke through the spring cloud layer last week, third-grade students from Great Hearts Monte Vista South made their way along the sidewalk and onto the bright green Koehler lawn.
Then came the signal from Headmaster Imber, and the Lions were released onto the Koehler House lawn and playground.
The morning marked an important milestone as renovations moved toward completion at Koehler House, where the vision has been to create new spaces for both learning and play for the scholars of Monte Vista South. Now, that vision is beginning to take visible shape.
Once finished, the restored house and carriage house will include a student library, art rooms, music classrooms, and additional spaces that support the daily life of the academy. The grounds will also feature a sports court to complement the now-open playground and lawn. On the upper floors of Koehler House, Great Hearts Texas central office staff will eventually relocate their offices.
For the scholars who stepped onto the field first, however, the significance of the day needed little explanation. They were the first to enjoy a place that will become part of the life of the academy for years to come.
An official ribbon-cutting invitation will be shared with families soon.
