Dr. Dyke’s professional and academic background is ideally suited to the classical and outward-looking mission of Great Hearts Texas. He is a highly regarded education executive with 25 years in the field. He is deeply familiar with Great Hearts Texas and well known by the broader Great Hearts community through his tenure as CEO of Great Hearts America from 2017 until 2020 and his service as the Great Hearts Foundation President.
Before joining Great Hearts America in 2017, Dr. Dyke had a highly successful tenure at Kaplan, where he spent nine years across several jobs of ascending executive responsibility, including as Executive Vice President of Higher and Professional Education. He also served as the chief executive officer at Chancellor Beacon Academies, Inc., now Imagine Schools, which creates and operates charter schools nationwide.
Prior to that, Dyke held federal and state government posts where he helped advance policies designed to encourage innovation in education. He served in senior roles at the U.S. Department of Education during the first Bush Administration, and previously as an assistant professor of public administration at The Ohio State University.
A Rhodes Scholar and former White House Fellow, Dr. Dyke holds a doctorate in politics and a bachelor’s degree in politics and economics from Oxford University in England. He also received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A formal search will be launched for the permanent Great Hearts Texas Superintendent in the Fall. The Great Hearts Texas Board believes Dr. Dyke is the ideal leader to guide Great Hearts through the 2024-2025 academic year and asks the entire community to give its full support to him as he leads us in the coming year.
Sincerely,
James Rahn
Board President
Great Hearts Texas
